Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a serious mental illness, which according to the National Institute of Mental Health, affects approximately 1.6 percent of Americans age 18 or older (3.8 million).

DBT, which differs from traditional therapy, teaches problem-solving techniques designed to bring a healthy balance to thoughts, feelings and actions.
BPD is a condition characterized by an intense fear of abandonment and emotional cycles and mood swings. Also, BPD includes impulsive and self-destructive behaviors, chaotic and unstable interpersonal relationships, and disturbances in identity.
