Personality Disorders Largely Being Treated Inappropriately by Psychiatrists
The easiest choice is to focus on pharmacologic therapy for target symptoms rather than the personality disorder as a whole. Personality Disorders Largely Being Treated Inappropriately by Psychiatrists May 6, 2015 Psychiatrists are giving drugs to most people with emotionally unstable personality disorders outside of the best-practice clinical guidelines, according to a study in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. And an accompanying editorial stated that the reason is because “therapy takes time.” The researchers performed a cross-sectional survey of self-selected psychiatric services, and found that of 2,600 patients with a diagnosis of personality disorder, more than two-thirds (68%) had a diagnosis of emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD). People With Severe Personality Disorders Often Overprescribed Drugs By UK Psychiatrists
While treatment certainly varies, Paris believes “specialized treatments, such as dialectal behavior therapy and metallization-based treatment” more effectively treat patients with personality disorders. Video: Anthony Bateman – Where does attachment fit into BPD?
Is Borderline Personality Disorder involve attachment? The Mentalization people (like Dr. Bateman) would say “Yes”. Those that do DBT wouldn’t agree. “This is not blame the mother… There are many things that affect the attachment system, not just the mother.” If you agree that attachment plays a role in BPD, you’ll more fully understand why boundaries and “detaching with love” can be harmful or triggering. Mentalizing is a verb
Mentalization is the true essence of love, compassion and understanding, because it allows you to internalize the authentic “image” of the other person’s mind (and they can yours as well). Mentalization is essentially done through asking questions, but not leading questions. One cannot ASSUME the other person’s thoughts and feelings are what you think they are. You have to start with a blank slate each time. You can “read” momentary feelings (such as recognizing micro-expressions) but the MEANING of those feelings is not always clear. If you don’t know, you have to ask. No related posts.
