Rick Warren has a prayer request. The Southern California megachurch pastor is getting ready to preach at multiple services and celebrate Easter this weekend but the problem is: Easter falls on the day his son ended his life two years ago.

“On a day where everything in me wants to be quiet and low key, be alone at home with my Lord and my wife and kids, and just get through the day without having to interact or be ‘on’ or celebrate anything…. instead I will be leading multiple Easter services on the biggest Christian day of the year,” Warren wrote on his Facebook page Wednesday.

Warren’s son, Matthew, committed suicide on April 5, 2013. He was 27. Matthew had been suffering from clinical depression and borderline personality disorder since birth.

The Saddleback Church pastor told CNN later that year that he always feared the day his son would take his life.

“The day that I had feared might happen one day, since he had been born, and the day that I had prayed would never happen … happened,” he said.

The year that Matthew died, Easter came five days before the “worst day” of Warren’s life.
