A TIVERTON couple are about to overcome a feat of mental strength and stamina in an ulta-marathon.

Kaz Sykes, 38, and partner Ray Elphick, 37 will compete in the The Wall, a 69 mile, 24 hour cross country endurance race taking in the sights of Carlisle to Gateshead along Hadrian’s Wall.

Kaz is raising money for mental health charity MIND who supported her during her “darkest” hours.

Miss Sykes was diagnosed with bi-polar and a borderline personality disorder in 2004 and has battled against drug, alcohol, self-harm and depression for over ten years.

“I lost everything; I lost my job, relationships, got myself into an incredible amount of debt, was self-harming and abusing drugs and alcohol,” she said.

“I knew I was the problem, but I couldn’t do anything to stop what I was doing.

“My impulses was horrendous, I jumped out of moving cars, jumped off of bridges, and have been in some awful situations where I was not able to cope.
