I'd like to blame the internet for the rise in self harm, but I don't think we can blame it. I cut myself for the first time when I was 12 years old, long before I ever accessed the internet.

But, however, I will say that I'm shocked at how many people (specifically on Tumblr) who post about cutting. They share photos and tips on where to cut on your body and on how to treat your wounds after you cut, so I won't say the internet is helping the situation.

I think in the end, we just all have to do a better job at raising awareness of it.

If someone had stepped in and got me help when I was 12 before I ever cut myself, I think I would be much better off today. I wish someone would have told me that it could easily turn into a life-long addiction and that I couldn't just "quit" doing it whenever I wanted. I'm almost 30 years old, and I still crave the self-harm release daily. I wish I never started
