When telling anyone that you have a severe mental illness, whether it be Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective or even Borderline Personality Disorder, they automatically assume you are crazy and they want nothing to do with you.
Bipolar Is Not Contagious

I can remember as a child not having very many friends. People avoided me right from the beginning of my life. Even my own parents and my brother. They knew something was just a bit off, a bit different and they wanted no part of whatever it was.
Had I been given parents who weren’t so ignorant to mental illness, maybe at a young age I could have gotten the help I needed then rather than waiting until I was 22 years old when I finally stepped up and sought out help on my own.
When it was Postpartum Depression and then Major Depressive Disorder, the friends I did have didn’t go far. Probably because I didn’t tell them. I did however tell my mom and she rolled her eyes and told me there was nothing wrong with me.
