Trade Words and thinking about yourself differently
I have starting thinking about the concept of “trade” words. What that means is that we nons “trade” certain words for other words. The purpose behind this is to re-make our ways of thinking – it helps to combat black-and-white thinking, shame and fear in ourselves. One of the concepts that I expound on in “When Hope is Not Enough” is the idea that one’s own language shapes one’s thoughts. While in that section of the book, I focus on the non-bp’s thoughts and words in relation to the person with BPD, here I am interested in how a non-BP thinks about his/herself. Here are some examples of “trade” words…

Megan Fox and Borderline Personality Disorder Reexamined
A little while ago, I wrote a piece on Megan Fox and her statements in an interview that she was considering the possibility that she had a “borderline” personality. I got several reactions that she probably didn’t know what she was talking about or that she was merely emulating/reflecting her “heroine” – Marilyn Monroe. (Fox has a tattoo of Marilyn Monroe on the right forearm). I read the interview with Fox in “Rolling Stone” this month and found that, if she was being honest in the interview, there is a distinct possibility that she does have BPD. All New Recommened Reading List for Non-BPs
I decided today to re-do my recommended reading list and use my Amazon store in its place. I felt it was getting kind of hard to maintain, and a bit stale. The new version has more good books on Borderline Personality Disorder, emotional skills and other such things. I arraigned it in categories now. Those categories are: Best Non-BPD books (self-help and informational books) Research on BPD (current and past research – mainly for therapists) Emotional Skills books (I particularly like Ekman’s books) Other books (Miscellaneous books on training, mindfulness and decision-making) And, my new favorite: ATSTP List Member Books (recommended by members of the ATSTP email list) Check them…

People with the disorder also may misperceive the actions of others. By Shari Roan >>> September 7, 2009 They have the thinnest skin, the shortest fuses and take the hardest knocks. In psychiatrists’ offices, they have long been viewed as among the most challenging patients to treat. They are the kind of people who drive a friend away for interfering and subsequently berate that friend for abandonment. But almost 20 years…

Megan Fox, a new celeb on the BPD-o-meter
Sure, she’s the hottest thing right now… Yet Megan Fox admits in a recent interview that there’s something wrong with her mentally… ‘I could end up like that because I constantly struggle with the idea that I think I’m a borderline personality – or that I have bouts of mild schizophrenia. I definitely have some kind of mental problem and I haven’t pinpointed what it is,” she aired to the mag. Could she be the first celebrity to “come out of the closet” and admitting to having BPD? It would be nice for the BPD community if she did. Most of the celebs say they have “bipolar disorder” (or depression)…
